Vancouver

Vancouver is located on the south-west coast of Canada. It is third largest city in Canada with the greater Vancouver population being well over 2 million. Routinely it is listed among the top 10 livable cities in the world for many reasons. It is one of the most beautiful cities being nestled between the Costal Mountains and the Pacific Ocean (map).

Its natural beauty and varied topography makes Vancouver a popular destination or home for active, outdoor minded individuals. Within the city itself you can walk, bicycle or rollerblade around the miles of seawall that outline the city's coast. The city is home to many parks (over 180), the most famous of these is 1000 acre Stanley Park. A short drive to the local mountains allows residents to enjoy skiing and hiking. Approximately 2 hours away by car are the world famous ski resorts Whistler & Blackcomb, which will be the main venue for the upcoming 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. Those who enjoy the pleasures of the ocean will find plenty to do year round.

In addition to its natural beauty, Vancouver is also endowed with numerous cultural activities. It is home to the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, Vancouver Art Gallery, UBC Anthropology Museum, Science World, and the H.R. Macmillan Space Centre/Planetarium to name a few.

Vancouver is also well known for its fabulous and diverse culinary experiences. Cuisines from every corner of the world are available representing the multicultural flavour of Vancouver. Shopping for your groceries is most enjoyable at one of the great farmers markets, the most famous of which is Granville Island Market. If retail shopping is your thing, a walk along the well known Robson Street with its eclectic mix of high-end shops, chic boutiques, and trendy cafes will fit the bill.
